The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) wrapped up the men’s freestyle events at the Senior Open Ranking Tournament 2026 in Gonda. The competition, held at Nandininagar Mahavidyalaya, saw 593 wrestlers participating in various weight categories.
In the 92kg freestyle division, Deepak Punia from Haryana clinched the gold medal and top national ranking. Punia secured victory in the final round after defeating Vansh, emerging as the champion.
Rohit from Haryana triumphed in the 125kg heavyweight category, securing a bronze medal. Transitioning to the Greco-Roman style, athletes like Umesh, Sagar, and Manoj Kumar advanced in their respective divisions, showcasing their skills in the tournament.
WFI President Sanjay Singh praised the athletes’ performances, especially highlighting Deepak Punia’s success in the 92kg category. The tournament featured intense matches, demonstrating the talent and competitiveness of domestic wrestlers.
Final freestyle tournament results included winners in various weight categories like 57kg, 61kg, 65kg, 70kg, 74kg, 79kg, 86kg, 92kg, 97kg, and 125kg.
