Ahead of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) 2026 final, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh expressed confidence in the sport’s growth in India. Singh highlighted strong government support and the successful revival of the league after a prolonged break.
Singh mentioned that wrestling has received consistent budgetary backing, with top leaders expressing confidence in the sport. He emphasized that wrestling is seen as a discipline where India can secure medals on the global stage, citing support from key government figures like the Prime Minister and Sports Minister.
Reflecting on the return of the Pro Wrestling League after a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Singh noted the overwhelming response to its comeback. He mentioned that the league’s viewership has exceeded expectations, showing a strong desire for its further growth.
Singh also emphasized the league’s role in nurturing young wrestling talent, stating that the PWL serves as a vital platform for aspiring wrestlers looking to make a mark internationally. He expressed optimism that emerging talents from the league could become future medal winners on the international stage.
Highlighting the performance of women wrestlers in the tournament, Singh praised their competitiveness against international opponents. He commended the strength and determination shown by Indian women wrestlers in competing strongly against their foreign counterparts.
