A recent statement by Yoga Guru Ramdev about a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ has stirred political and religious debates. Ramdev, speaking at an event, emphasized that the concept of a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ should not cause concern, highlighting shared ancestry despite religious differences. However, his remarks faced criticism from Muslim clerics and opposition parties for being divisive.
Many Muslim clerics expressed disapproval of Ramdev’s comments, labeling them as divisive and inflammatory. Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali from AIMPLB stressed the importance of promoting harmony and brotherhood among different faiths. Similarly, Shia religious leaders emphasized the right of individuals to practice their own religion and advocated for unity and harmony across all religions.
In response to Ramdev’s statements, Congress leaders raised concerns about potential religious divisions. Salman Khurshid questioned the need for creating rifts along religious lines and urged for inclusivity and unity. Meanwhile, Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh acknowledged the historical intermingling of religions in India but also cautioned against divisive rhetoric.
Waris Pathan, representing AIMIM, advised Ramdev to adhere to constitutional principles and avoid making statements that could sow division. Pathan emphasized that Muslims do not fear anyone but operate within the constitutional framework. The controversy surrounding Ramdev’s remarks has sparked a broader discussion on religious harmony and unity in India.
