Pakistan’s Faheem Ashraf, known for his seam-bowling skills, has been recruited by Yorkshire for the upcoming T20 Blast tournament, running from May 26 to July 18. Ashraf, aged 32, will replace Australian all-rounder Will Sutherland, who is sidelined due to a shoulder injury. He will also participate in two rounds of the County Championship in June.
Having played 85 T20 Internationals, Faheem Ashraf has prior experience with Northamptonshire and Sussex in county cricket. He is expected to debut for Yorkshire in the T20 opener against Nottinghamshire on May 22 at Trent Bridge. Somerset holds the current T20 Blast title, having secured their third championship in the previous season.
Expressing his excitement, Ashraf stated, “I’m thrilled to be part of Yorkshire. Several Pakistani players have represented the Club and have praised the team’s environment and player quality. I eagerly anticipate joining Headingley.”
Faheem Ashraf, a seasoned campaigner, has competed in various leagues including the Big Bash League, Bangladesh Premier League, and the Blast. He recently achieved a milestone in the Pakistan Super League by becoming the second player to amass 1000 runs and claim 100 wickets.
In his T20 career, Ashraf has taken 61 wickets at an average of 25.23 and scored 594 runs at a strike rate of 137.18. Additionally, he has featured in 17 Test matches and 45 One Day Internationals for Pakistan. Yorkshire’s cricket manager Gavin Hamilton praised the signing, highlighting Ashraf’s versatility as a player capable of making significant contributions with both bat and ball.
