Young Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player Ayush Mhatre shared how the guidance from veteran skipper MS Dhoni influenced his leadership style during his time as India U-19 captain. Mhatre, who led India to victory at the U-19 World Cup, highlighted the importance of Dhoni’s advice on staying calm and making wise decisions on the field.
Recalling his interactions with Dhoni during the IPL 2025 season with CSK, Mhatre mentioned seeking advice on captaincy from the legendary cricketer. He emphasized Dhoni’s counsel to maintain composure, especially during challenging moments, to ensure sound decision-making as a leader.
Mhatre expressed his delight in fulfilling his dream of playing for CSK and the surreal experience of sharing the dressing room with players he admired. Despite being new to the team, he felt welcomed and appreciated the supportive team culture that helped him settle in comfortably.
The young player emphasized his focus on adaptability and contributing to the team’s success rather than fixating on a specific batting position. Mhatre highlighted the importance of backing his skills, playing according to the situation, and striving to contribute effectively to the team’s victories.
Reflecting on the changing dynamics of modern cricket, Mhatre acknowledged the impact of the fast-paced game on his batting approach. He noted the evolution towards aggressive cricket in T20 and ODI formats, emphasizing the need for improved stroke-making abilities and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to play for a prestigious franchise like CSK.
CSK is scheduled to face Kolkata Knight Riders at the M A Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday.
