A disturbing incident unfolded in Pune’s Chandannagar area where a young man allegedly tried to kill his girlfriend by slashing her throat with a sharp weapon during a relationship dispute. The victim, identified as 22-year-old Ujaladevi Jaswantsingh Dohre, is fighting for her life in the ICU after the attack that occurred in Patharewasti locality. The accused, Dilip Rathod, was apprehended by the police in connection with the case.
The victim’s brother reported the incident to the Chandannagar Police Station, leading to the arrest of the accused under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police disclosed that the victim and the accused had a work history at the same mall, where their romantic involvement began. However, recent disagreements between them escalated into frequent arguments and altercations.
On the day of the assault, the victim was alone at home as her brother and sister-in-law were at work. The accused arrived at the residence, triggering a confrontation that culminated in him attacking her with a sharp weapon. Despite sustaining critical injuries, the victim managed to alert her brother through a text message and video call before being rushed to a private hospital in Kharadi, where she remains in the ICU under critical condition.
Due to the severity of the throat injury, the victim was unable to speak when police officials arrived at the hospital for her statement. She resorted to writing the name “Dilip Rathod” to identify the accused. The victim’s brother revealed that her marriage had been arranged elsewhere and accused the perpetrator of desiring to marry her. Senior Pune Police officials intervened, initiating an investigation into the matter, while the accused is presently in police custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
