Akash Gupta, leading a youth group in cleaning the Manorama river in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for acknowledging their efforts in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program. Gupta emphasized the importance of national unity in achieving cleanliness goals. He highlighted the necessity of collective action for successful implementation of cleanliness initiatives like ‘Namami Gange Programme’ and ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’.
Gupta shared that their team of seven members has already cleaned 300 meters of the river in 65 days. He stressed the need for more people to join their cause to expedite the cleaning process. The young activist urged citizens to take responsibility for preserving natural resources rather than solely relying on government intervention.
In addition to river cleaning, Gupta’s team plans to plant saplings along the riverbed during the upcoming monsoon season to contribute to environmental conservation. They also aim to engage in rainwater harvesting activities. Gupta expressed confidence in the youth’s potential to drive the country’s development with the right opportunities.
