The YSR Congress Party criticized the N. Chandrababu Naidu-led state government for its treatment of farmers in Undavalli amid plans to develop Amaravati as the state capital. Despite farmers’ objections to giving up their lands, essential for their livelihoods, the government resorted to forceful tactics. Police presence, destruction of crops, and coercion marked the government’s actions, drawing strong condemnation from the YSRCP President.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed concern over the government’s disregard for farmers’ well-being. The use of police force to suppress farmers’ voices and the lack of answers regarding compensation for destroyed crops raised serious questions. The YSRCP emphasized the importance of voluntary consent in any land acquisition process and demanded an immediate halt to coercive activities in the capital region.
The YSRCP President highlighted the plight of small and marginal farmers, emphasizing the significance of their lands for sustenance. The party stood in solidarity with farmers, stressing the need for fair compensation and respect for farmers’ rights. The government’s actions were deemed unacceptable in a democratic society, with calls for a more humane and farmer-centric approach to land acquisition.
