Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has urged the state government to promptly evacuate Non-Resident Andhras stuck in Gulf countries due to the escalating tensions in the Middle East. Jagan Reddy highlighted the plight of thousands of Andhra Pradesh residents working in the Gulf facing uncertainty and security risks with flight cancellations and restrictions at international airports. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts between the state and Central governments to facilitate their safe return, emphasizing the importance of working closely with Indian embassies in the region.
State NRI Relations and Empowerment Minister Kondapalli Srinivas mentioned that steps are being taken by the state government to bring back Telugu people stranded in the Gulf amid the challenging circumstances. He, along with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, is closely monitoring the situation to assist passengers facing difficulties at airports. The Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu society (APNRT) has been mobilized to provide temporary accommodation, security, and support to distressed Non-Resident Andhraites in collaboration with local Telugu families, ensuring their well-being during this crisis.
Jagan Reddy emphasized that safeguarding expatriate Andhras is a crucial responsibility of the state government, calling for urgent and non-partisan governance during such critical times. He proposed the establishment of a dedicated control room and helpline numbers to keep families informed about the safety and movements of their relatives abroad, underscoring the need for proactive measures to address the challenges faced by Non-Resident Andhras in the Gulf.
