Fast bowler Richard Ngarava will continue leading Zimbabwe’s men’s Test and One-Day International (ODI) teams, while Sikandar Raza will captain the T20I side, as per Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC). Josephine Nkomo has been appointed as the new captain of the national women’s team following Mary-Anne Musonda’s retirement in April.
Ngarava, who recently captained the team in a Test match against Bangladesh, will have Brian Bennett as the Test vice-captain. Raza will serve as the ODI vice-captain, with Ngarava as his deputy in T20Is. Nomvelo Sibanda is named vice-captain for the women’s team under Josephine’s leadership.
ZC Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani emphasized the importance of leadership qualities in the chosen captains. He expressed confidence in Ngarava, Raza, and Nkomo to lead their teams effectively, supported by Bennett, Sibanda, and other vice-captains.
The leadership appointments are crucial for Zimbabwe’s teams as they aim to maintain their positive momentum. The men’s team is looking to build on recent progress, while the women’s team is participating in the ICC Women’s Championship for the first time this year.
