Zimbabwean cricketer Blessing Muzarabani’s agency has contested the Pakistan Super League (PSL) decision to ban him for two years, asserting that he had not finalized any formal agreement before opting to join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Initially enlisted as a replacement player in the PSL for a reported sum of PKR 11 million, Muzarabani withdrew from the league and signed with KKR, prompting disciplinary action from the PSL.
In a statement released by Muzarabani’s agency, ‘World Sports Xchange,’ it was clarified that no official contract had been signed between Muzarabani and any PSL team. While Islamabad United (IU) had approached him for the 2026 season, any agreement was contingent on securing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Zimbabwe Cricket, a process requiring a signed contract in the first instance.
The agency emphasized that when KKR approached Muzarabani on February 27 as a replacement player for IPL 2026, there was no binding commitment to the PSL, enabling the cricketer to accept the IPL opportunity without contravening any professional obligations. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had imposed the ban, alleging non-compliance with commitments and a breach of the league’s code of conduct. However, Muzarabani’s representatives deemed the punishment excessively severe and urged the PSL to revoke the ban, attributing the situation to an administrative oversight.
Muzarabani’s IPL stint with KKR in 2026 saw him play two matches, initially going wicketless but subsequently delivering a strong performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by claiming four wickets.
