The tragic incident of a 10-year-old girl being kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and murdered near Sulur in Coimbatore district has deeply affected Tamil Nadu. The girl, who disappeared after going to a nearby shop, was later found dead near Kannampalayam pond. Following a complaint by her parents, the police swiftly arrested two suspects within 24 hours.
The victim, a resident of a village near Sulur, went missing on Thursday evening, prompting her parents to seek help from the authorities. A search operation led to the discovery of the girl’s body in the bushes by the pond. Subsequent investigations confirmed that she had been abducted, assaulted, and killed at that location.
Inspector General of Police (Western Region) R.V. Ramya Bharathi assured the public of prompt action in response to the incident. Five special investigation teams were deployed to handle the case, leading to the identification and arrest of the main suspect, Karthi, along with his accomplice Mohanraj. Both suspects, who are daily wage earners, are now in police custody.
The police disclosed that Karthi attempted to evade capture by jumping from a building, resulting in injuries that required medical treatment. Authorities are awaiting the full post-mortem report and have pledged to prosecute the culprits under the POCSO Act. Additionally, measures are being taken to support the victim’s family during this difficult time, with assurances of swift legal proceedings against the accused.
