In response to the situation in Manipur, 132 NCC cadets who participated in the NCC North Eastern Region (NER) Flying Camp in Imphal from May 11 to May 20, 2026, were airlifted to Guwahati and Jorhat in Assam by the Indian Air Force (IAF). This emergency evacuation was conducted due to security concerns and restrictions on road travel in Manipur. The NCC NER Directorate, in collaboration with the Headquarters Director General NCC and the Headquarters Eastern Air Command, organized the swift evacuation to ensure the cadets’ safety.
The successful evacuation ensured that the cadets reached their destinations in time for their examinations, bringing relief to their families. The NCC cadets expressed gratitude for the support and assistance received during the operation. They particularly thanked the Defence Minister, Ministry of Defence, and the Indian Air Force for their continuous support and care. The NCC Directorate North Eastern Region acknowledged the Ministry of Defence, IAF, and NCC Directorate for their efforts in swiftly airlifting the cadets during challenging circumstances in Manipur.
The Indian Air Force conducted a special airlift operation on May 23, using three AN-32 aircraft to evacuate 60 cadets to Jorhat and 72 cadets to Guwahati. This operation was necessary as the cadets from Jorhat and Guwahati were unable to return home by road due to the situation in Manipur. The prompt support provided by the IAF brought comfort to the worried parents of the cadets.
