The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) apprehended 34 Afghan nationals in Balochistan’s Gwadar for entering Pakistan without proper documentation. The FIA’s Turbat wing conducted a raid in the CPEC road area based on a tip-off, capturing men, women, and children attempting to cross into Iran through Gwadar.
Following initial interrogation, a case was filed against the detainees, and a thorough investigation is underway to identify the individuals and networks involved in this illicit border crossing. This operation is part of broader efforts to combat human smuggling and unauthorized cross-border movements, as per reports from Dawn.
Recent concerns have been raised by the Afghanistan Media Support Organisation (AMSO) regarding the mistreatment and arbitrary arrests faced by Afghan refugees in Pakistan. The AMSO highlighted that over 3.4 million Afghan migrants have been deported from Pakistan and Iran since 2023 due to increased crackdowns on undocumented foreigners, as reported by Khaama Press.
The AMSO’s findings revealed alarming statistics, with a significant percentage of Afghan migrants experiencing arrests, abuse, extortion, and other forms of mistreatment. The report also emphasized that many deported individuals did not undergo individual risk assessments before expulsion from Pakistan, underscoring the challenges faced by Afghan refugees in the region.
