At least 70 farmers from Udhampur received specialized training in advanced oilseed cultivation at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology campus in Jammu. This training was part of the Rs 5,000 crore Holistic Agriculture Development Project (HADP) in J&K, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to double farmers’ income. The HADP, led by Udhampur legislator Ranbir Singh Pathania, focuses on introducing modern techniques in oilseed cultivation to enhance production and sustainability in the region. Pathania emphasized the government’s dedication to farmers’ prosperity by equipping them with the latest agricultural practices, from seed selection to pest management. The project, set to be completed in five years, emphasizes crop diversification, improved irrigation, and market connections for high-value crops like oilseeds. Chief Agriculture Officer Harbans Singh mentioned that farmers were trained in new technologies, oilseed production methods, farm management, and pest control. The program aims to skill around 2.5 lakh farmers through the Daksh Kisan portal and establish 2000 Kisan Khidmat Ghars to enhance value chains in Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative is expected to create job opportunities and benefit marginal families in the region.
