As per information provided in the Lok Sabha, 775 Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs), including 398 exclusive POCSO (e-POCSO) Courts, across 29 States/UTs resolved 66,500 cases in 2025. However, by the end of the year, there were still 2.45 lakh pending cases.

Responding to a query, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal disclosed that in 2024, the FTSCs concluded 85,595 cases, while in 2023, they settled 76,319 cases. The backlog of cases in these courts by the end of the respective years was 2.04 lakh in 2024 and 2.02 lakh in 2023.

Meghwal highlighted that the Fast Track Special Courts were established under a Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched in October 2019. This initiative aimed to expedite the trial and resolution of pending cases related to rape and offenses under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

The Scheme, which has been extended twice, is currently valid until March 31, 2026, for the establishment of 790 FTSCs. The Union Minister noted that the funds under this scheme are disbursed to cover the salaries of one Judicial Officer and seven support Staff per FTSC, along with a Flexi Grant for daily expenses.

Under another Centrally Sponsored Scheme for the Development of Infrastructure Facilities for District and Subordinate Courts, financial assistance has been provided to State/UT Governments since 1993-94. This assistance covers various components such as Court Halls, Residential Units, Lawyers’ Halls, Toilet Complexes, and Digital Computer Rooms, with an allocated amount of Rs 4,519.47 crore during the XV Finance Commission cycle.
