The 8th National Nutrition Fortnight, known as Poshan Pakhwada, commenced on April 9 in Rajasthan, aiming to promote a healthier state. This initiative emphasizes optimal brain development in children under six years old and encourages community involvement. Efforts include reducing screen time for children, promoting play-based learning, and enhancing maternal and child nutrition.
The campaign, running until April 23, has already conducted over two million activities across Rajasthan. It raises awareness among families and communities about essential nutrition practices for healthy living and robust brain development. At the grassroots level, the program utilizes the Anganwadi network and community organizations for effective nutrition service delivery.
Recognizing that 85% of brain development occurs by age six, with rapid growth in the first 1,000 days of life, the initiative focuses on “Early Stimulation for Brain Development.” Over 489,000 such activities have been carried out in Rajasthan. Key activities include maternal and child nutrition, play-based education, reducing screen time, strengthening Anganwadi Centers, and various other initiatives.
The Poshan Abhiyan (National Nutrition Mission), launched in Rajasthan by PM Modi in 2018, targets improving the nutritional status of adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and young children. It aims to combat malnutrition and anemia through technology-driven monitoring and community engagement. Rajasthan has excelled in the mission, securing top positions in previous nutrition events.
