Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes that Delhi Capitals (DC) are poised to secure victory in the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL). With a strong squad and three previous final appearances, Chopra tips DC to break their title drought under new skipper Jemimah Rodrigues.
Chopra also highlighted Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Smriti Mandhana as a potential top run-scorer in the upcoming WPL season. He suggested that Smriti Mandhana could lead the race for the Orange Cap, with her opening partner Shafali Verma also being a strong contender for the accolade.
In addition, Chopra mentioned Deepti Sharma and Sree Charani as potential award winners in WPL 2026. He expressed confidence in Sharma’s ability to secure a hat-trick of Player of the Tournament awards, citing her current form and overall improvement. Chopra also praised Sree Charani, anticipating her to excel as the tournament’s top spinner and potentially win the Emerging Player of the Season award.
Regarding the opening game between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the DY Patil Stadium on January 9, Chopra favored Mumbai Indians for the win, acknowledging the closely matched contest between the two sides.
