The Ministry of Home Affairs has granted ‘Z+ category’ security cover to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha in Delhi and Punjab. This decision came after the Punjab government withdrew Chadha’s security detail earlier in the day, amidst a growing discord between Chadha and the AAP. Paramilitary forces will be deployed to ensure the security of the AAP leader, based on a threat perception report from the Intelligence Bureau and assessments by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Recent organizational changes within AAP have also been noted. Ashok Mittal was appointed as the new Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha on April 2, replacing Chadha in the position. This move was considered a significant shift within the party, introducing a new face from Punjab. Chadha, in response to these developments on April 3, expressed that he had been “silenced, not defeated.”
Speculation surrounds Chadha’s future within AAP, with a recent Instagram post on April 8 suggesting the formation of a new youth-led political party instead of joining an existing one. On April 10, amidst internal party tensions, Chadha emphasized his parliamentary work through an Instagram post, stating, “With respect to those questioning my parliamentary performance, I’ll let my work do the talking.” The post included a video showcasing his interventions and questions in the Rajya Sabha on various public policy issues.
