Abhay Singh and Nipam emerged as the fastest male and female athletes on Day One of the 24th National Junior (U20) Athletics Federation Competition in Tumkur, Karnataka. Abhay Singh, representing Reliance Foundation, won the men’s 100m dash with a time of 10.41 seconds, surpassing the Asian junior qualification time and the meet record.
Nipam from Uttar Pradesh secured gold in the women’s 100m event with a winning time of 11.53 seconds, breaking the previous junior national record. She also improved the meet record previously held by Dutee Chand. Nipam’s performance has positioned her well for potential participation in the World Athletics U20 in the USA.
Amanat Kamboj from Punjab excelled in the discus throw, achieving the Asian U20 qualification mark with a winning distance of 52.27m. In other events, Muskan of Haryana claimed gold in the women’s 5,000m, surpassing the Asian junior qualification time. Sonam Parmar from IOCL secured silver in the same event, also meeting the Asian qualification standard.
B Sowndharya from Tamil Nadu equaled the Asian junior qualification mark in the women’s pole vault. Additionally, Mohammed Ashfaq from Kerala stood out as the fastest runner in the men’s 400m qualification round, surpassing the Asian junior qualification time.
