Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee visited the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters of the West Bengal Police to address queries regarding the legislators’ signature mismatch case. A court order mandated his appearance by 6 p.m. following his repeated failure to respond to previous summons. Despite being in New Delhi when the order was issued, Banerjee rushed back to Kolkata, arriving just in time before the deadline.
Banerjee, also known as the nephew of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, reached the CID’s headquarters in South Kolkata minutes before the stipulated time. Although he signed the visitors’ register, he did not engage with the media present. Notably, the court had earlier granted him protection from any coercive police actions, including arrest, for the next 21 days. The bench instructed Banerjee to cooperate fully with the CID’s investigation.
There is currently no threat of arrest in the case, given the court’s interim protection order. Additionally, the CID officials have been authorized to conduct necessary search and raid operations as part of the ongoing investigation.
