Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee appeared at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Kolkata to face questioning regarding a legislators’ signature mismatch case. Following a court order, Abhishek Banerjee, who is the nephew of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, arrived at the CID headquarters just before the 6 p.m. deadline set by the Calcutta High Court.
Abhishek Banerjee, who had previously avoided summons three times, rushed back to Kolkata from New Delhi upon the court’s directive. The court emphasized the importance of his cooperation with CID investigators and granted him protection from arrest for the next 21 days. Despite facing interrogation, there is currently no immediate threat of arrest in the case.
Upon his return to Kolkata, Abhishek Banerjee first visited his residence before heading to the CID headquarters, located close by. The court also authorized CID officials to conduct search operations if deemed necessary during the investigation process.
