Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee provided documents to Kalighat police station regarding a Motor Vehicle Act breach. The police had requested various documents from the Diamond Harbour MP. On Sunday, a representative visited the police station and handed over the documents.
However, reports suggest that the submitted documents are incomplete, lacking some requested items. Consequently, the police might issue another notice to Abhishek for the outstanding documents. Abhishek was required to submit the documents by Saturday, but they were not received within the stipulated timeframe. Following the deadline, the MP sent the documents to the police station.
An FIR was filed against Abhishek Banerjee at Kalighat police station in south Kolkata on July 1. This action stemmed from a complaint by a Baguiati resident named Rajiv Sarkar, alleging that Abhishek’s security guards were driving his car recklessly, violating Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) provisions. The complainant cited specific sections of the Motor Vehicle Act, highlighting the prohibition of hanging passengers in moving vehicles and the consequences of dangerous driving.
Abhishek faces charges under various sections of BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act, including reckless driving, disobedience of lawful orders, and common intention. Notably, Abhishek Banerjee is already embroiled in corruption allegations and is being scrutinized by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Recent cases involving signature discrepancies and controversial remarks have added to his legal challenges.
Moreover, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has revoked Abhishek’s protection in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son, Akash Vijayvargiya. Allegations of corruption have also surfaced regarding his ‘Sebaashray’ health camps established for the constituents of Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha.
