Senior Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Vem Narender Reddy, a close aide of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, have been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from the state. The Returning Officer, Upender Reddy, declared their election after the nomination withdrawal deadline passed. Singhvi and Narender Reddy were the only candidates in the fray for the two seats, leading to their unopposed election.
An independent candidate named Sai had also submitted his nomination, but it was rejected. The Returning Officer officially handed over the nomination papers to Singhvi and Narender Reddy. Narender Reddy expressed gratitude to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Revanth Reddy, and other leaders during interactions with the media.
Singhvi secured re-election to the Rajya Sabha from Telangana, while Narender Reddy will serve as a first-time member of the upper house of Parliament. Narender Reddy, who previously served as an advisor to Chief Minister Reddy, was chosen as the second candidate by the party leadership over several senior leaders. The terms of current members Singhvi and KR Suresh Reddy are set to conclude on April 9, necessitating the elections which were originally scheduled for March 16.
