Actress Pervein Dastur, known for her role as Seema in the classic film ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya,’ shared a surprising caution she received from late filmmaker Rajkumar Barjatya before signing the movie. In an interview, she disclosed that Barjatya had candidly warned her that starring in the film would prevent her from becoming a leading lady. Pervein portrayed the character of Seema, a vamp eager to marry Salman Khan’s character, Prem, in the movie.
The portrayal of her character, a stylish and spirited Nisha with curly hair, established Pervein as one of Bollywood’s most popular vamps. ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya,’ released on December 29, 1989, marked Sooraj Barjatya’s directorial debut and emerged as a significant success in Hindi cinema. The film, starring Salman Khan and Bhagyashree in the lead, featured a strong supporting cast including Alok Nath, Reema Lagoo, Mohnish Bahl, and Pervein Dastur.
The movie not only gained fame for its storyline but also for its memorable songs like ‘Aate Jaate,’ ‘Kabutar Ja Ja Ja,’ and ‘Dil Deewana.’ It played a pivotal role in elevating Salman Khan’s career from an actor to a superstar and catapulted Bhagyashree to stardom overnight. Despite the warning, Pervein Dastur, who had a background in English theatre, continued her journey in Bollywood with more films and projects.
