Adani Hydro Energy Eleven Ltd. (AHE11L), a part of Adani Green Energy, will construct the 2,250 MW Gandikota-2 Pumped Storage Project in Andhra Pradesh’s YSR Kadapa district. The state government has approved the project allocation to AHE11L, aiming to enhance the state’s status as a clean energy and energy storage hub.
The project, operating under the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024, is set to be one of the largest pumped storage projects in India. It will play a crucial role in Andhra Pradesh’s future power infrastructure strategy. The State Investment Promotion Board, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, granted the project approval.
Located at the Lord Balaji Donthi Kona PSP Park in YSR Kadapa district, the Gandikota-2 PSP will bolster Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy balancing and storage capabilities. It will also support the state’s growing sectors like green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, electric mobility, and AI-driven data centers.
Pumped storage projects are increasingly vital for renewable-heavy power systems globally, ensuring stable clean energy supply round-the-clock. India, in its renewable energy transition, is rapidly expanding pumped storage capacity. Andhra Pradesh stands out as a key destination for pumped storage development, with numerous projects in progress.
The Adani Group is actively expanding its pumped storage portfolio nationwide as part of its renewable energy and energy transition strategy. With projects in various states, including Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, the group is contributing to India’s energy landscape. The Gandikota-2 project is seen as a significant asset for India’s future energy economy and supporting energy-intensive digital infrastructure.
