Afghan border forces in southern Kandahar province confiscated 30 Beretta pistols during a targeted operation in the Tor Kach area of Maruf district. The firearms were intercepted while being smuggled into Afghanistan from a neighboring country, as confirmed by Nazir Ahmad Shakeeb, spokesman for the 205 Al-Badr Army Corps. Afghan security forces are actively working to combat arms trafficking in the porous border regions.
The recent seizure is part of a broader effort by the Afghan government to collect arms and ammunition from individuals outside official security forces and prevent weapons smuggling in border areas. In a separate incident in eastern Afghanistan’s Khost province last December, counter-terrorism police discovered and seized a cache of armaments and ammunition, including rocket launchers, hand grenades, machine-gun rounds, assorted ammunition, rocket rounds, and rocket propellant charges.
In ongoing efforts to curb unauthorized weapons, police uncovered more arms and ammunition in neighboring Paktika province. Over the past four years, Afghan authorities have seized thousands of weapons and large quantities of ammunition in a nationwide drive to enhance security and stability in the conflict-affected country. In a significant discovery on November 30, 2025, authorities uncovered a hidden weapons cache in Uruzgan province, leading to the arrest of three individuals connected to the illicit arms stash.
