The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), a crucial ally of the BJP-led NDA in Assam, reaffirmed its backing for the new state government formation and expressed a desire for Himanta Biswa Sarma to serve as Chief Minister for a second time. AGP President Atul Bora, addressing the media post a meeting, highlighted the positive discussions held, with senior leaders and committee members showing confidence in Sarma’s leadership. The AGP emphasized its unwavering commitment to the NDA alliance and pledged to continue supporting the coalition government in Assam.
Referring to the progress made in various sectors during CM Sarma’s previous term, Bora noted that visible development initiatives had bolstered public trust in the alliance. He mentioned that the advancements under Sarma’s leadership had garnered widespread support across Assam, leading the public to back the NDA once again. Bora also mentioned that alliance workers and supporters actively campaigned, showcasing the government’s achievements ahead of the new administration’s formation.
The AGP chief emphasized that the alliance partners had collectively presented their perspectives to the leadership and were collaborating to ensure political stability and sustained progress in the state. He indicated that the alliance’s focus would remain on infrastructure, welfare measures, and safeguarding the interests of Assam and its residents. The NDA, under BJP leadership in Assam, is gearing up for the swearing-in of the new Council of Ministers in Guwahati on May 12, with the presence of several senior BJP leaders and NDA chief ministers anticipated at the ceremony.
