Ahmedabad in Gujarat is expected to endure a severe heatwave in the upcoming week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting temperatures reaching up to 44°C. The city has been placed on an orange alert for six days starting April 28, with the alert in place until 8:30 a.m. on May 4. Additionally, one day during this period will be under a yellow alert.
The IMD forecasts daytime temperatures to fluctuate between 43°C and 44°C, while nighttime temperatures are anticipated to be around 28°C. To enhance localized monitoring of heat conditions, temperature projections have been developed for 20 wards across six zones of Ahmedabad. These projections have identified hotspot areas for the next three days based on expected peak temperatures in different parts of the city.
Residents will have access to area-specific temperature data and hotspot details through a QR code system. The information will include the estimated maximum temperatures recorded between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. in various localities. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued an advisory advising citizens to take precautions against the extreme heat, emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated and avoiding direct sunlight.
