As artificial intelligence (AI) transforms workplaces in India, a recent report by ADP has shown that more than 94% of organizations are utilizing payroll data for crucial business decisions like hiring, retention, and cost optimization. This shift underscores the increasing significance of payroll data in shaping workforce strategies. Organizations are increasingly using payroll data for budget simulations, workforce planning, variable pay modeling, and market benchmarking, with six in ten already leveraging this information.
Rahul Goyal, the Managing Director of ADP India and Southeast Asia, emphasized that payroll has evolved from a post-decision consideration to a pivotal planning tool, enabling informed and timely decisions while ensuring accuracy and compliance. Despite the rapid digital adoption, the report highlights that maintaining payroll accuracy remains fundamental for effective pay practices. Operational challenges persist due to fragmented systems, manual data entry, and evolving regulatory requirements, with 45% of organizations citing managing payroll compliance across regions as a significant hurdle.
The report also reveals that over 96% of respondents are using predictive analytics or planning implementation, with half of the organizations planning to implement AI-powered payroll systems within the next year. Companies are prioritizing responsible AI deployment, robust data governance, and human oversight to uphold fairness, transparency, and quality in payroll processes. The shift towards integrated and AI-enabled payroll systems, supported by automation and governance frameworks, is accelerating in response to these challenges.
