Amid the ongoing AIADMK rift, DMK spokesperson Salem Dharanidharan expressed that the opposition party is on the brink of collapse, noting a significant split among its MLAs for the first time. Dharanidharan highlighted the departure of key figures like Sasikala, T.T.V. Dhinakaran, and O.Panneerselvam, emphasizing the party’s internal fragmentation.
The situation escalated as senior AIADMK leader Shanmugam accused party General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami of considering an alliance with the DMK. Shanmugam, along with other party members, voiced support for Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led TVK government, citing the need to rejuvenate the party after electoral setbacks.
Following the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections where AIADMK secured only 47 seats, Shanmugam criticized the party’s performance under the NDA alliance. He revealed that EPS proposed collaborating with the DMK post-election, a move strongly opposed by party members who declared their support for the TVK government instead.
The internal discord within AIADMK deepened as factions led by EPS and other senior leaders like Velumani engaged in separate consultations. The party’s future remains uncertain as divisions persist, with calls for immediate introspection and corrective actions to address electoral defeats.
