The AIADMK kickstarted its election campaign for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections by announcing five significant promises. Led by General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the party emphasized welfare, housing, employment, and women’s empowerment. These pledges were revealed during a ceremony commemorating the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran (MGR).
The first assurance, the “Kula Vilakku Scheme,” promises a monthly financial aid of Rs 2,000 for all family ration card holders. This aid will be directly deposited into the head of the family’s bank account to alleviate financial burdens and enhance economic stability at the grassroots level.
Additionally, the AIADMK vowed to provide free public transport benefits. While men will receive free bus travel in city buses, women will continue to enjoy this benefit unchanged. If implemented, this initiative will make city bus travel free for both male and female commuters.
The party’s focus on housing is evident through the “Amma Illam Scheme,” which aims to construct concrete houses for homeless individuals in rural areas. In urban zones, apartment-style homes will be built on government-acquired land and offered at no cost to those in need. Furthermore, a special provision for Scheduled Caste families was introduced, ensuring individual concrete houses for married sons leaving joint households.
To address rural employment, the AIADMK plans to extend the employment guarantee scheme from 100 to 150 working days. This move is intended to bolster rural livelihoods and development beyond the central government’s proposal to increase it to 125 days.
Lastly, the party intends to expand the “Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme” by providing two-wheelers and a subsidy of Rs 25,000 to five lakh women. This initiative aims to enhance mobility, safety, and economic independence. These promises underscore the AIADMK’s commitment to its welfare-oriented legacy and outline its electoral agenda.
