The Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) at AIIMS Bhopal achieved a milestone by conducting a successful complex cardiac surgery. A 30-year-old patient from Hoshangabad, now Narmadapuram district, had been facing severe health issues for six months. Dr. Yogesh Niwariya, Head of the CTVS Department at AIIMS Bhopal, mentioned the patient’s history of heart attack, paralysis, kidney dysfunction, large clots in the heart, and weak heart muscle.
Dr. Niwariya explained that due to the clots, the patient had a heart attack six months ago, followed by a blocked kidney artery and paralysis. Despite prior treatments elsewhere proving ineffective, the patient was referred to AIIMS Bhopal for his critical condition. After a thorough evaluation, the medical experts at AIIMS Bhopal opted for surgery to address the multiple mobile clots in the left ventricle, which posed a high risk of severe complications.
A specialized team conducted a left ventricular thrombectomy, a complex open-heart procedure, to remove all clots from the heart successfully. This procedure significantly reduced the risk of future stroke and other grave complications. Following the surgery, the patient’s condition stabilized in the ICU before being shifted to the ward, where he is now in good health. AIIMS Bhopal’s Executive Director, Dr. Madhabananda Kar, highlighted the institution’s capability to treat serious illnesses locally, eliminating the need for patients to seek treatment outside the state.
