Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, a former Defence Attache to Pakistan, has assumed the role of Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Indian Air Force, succeeding Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari. Kapoor, a seasoned fighter pilot with over 3,400 hours of flying experience, joined the Indian Air Force in December 1986 after graduating from the National Defence Academy.
Having served in various command, operational, and instructional roles, Air Marshal Kapoor’s career highlights include commanding a fighter squadron, serving as a Station Commander, and holding key staff positions. He has also been involved in diplomatic assignments, notably as Defence Attaché to Pakistan. Kapoor’s exceptional service has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Vavu Sena Medal in 2008, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2022, and the Presidential Awards of Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal in 2025.
Prior to his current appointment, Air Marshal Kapoor held significant positions such as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Training Command and South Western Air Command. His wealth of experience and dedication to the nation’s defense make him a valuable addition to the leadership of the Indian Air Force.
