AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that the Muslim community in the state is living in fear due to Sarma’s politics and statements. Ajmal, who recently won the Binnakandi Assembly seat, accused Sarma of promoting division and hate speech, claiming he leads in making inflammatory comments. Despite this, Ajmal emphasized the Muslim community’s dedication to social harmony and progress.
Referring to his charitable organization’s educational initiatives, Ajmal highlighted that the Ajmal Foundation’s institutions welcome students from all backgrounds, not just Muslims. He stressed their commitment to education and social welfare without discrimination, emphasizing inclusivity and diversity in their programs. Ajmal also encouraged Muslims in Assam to identify Assamese as their mother tongue during the upcoming Census, aiming to strengthen ties between the Muslim community and Assamese society.
Addressing state politics, Ajmal weighed in on the leadership matter within the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), proposing senior Congress leader Rakibul Hussain as the new state Congress president. He argued that Hussain’s extensive political experience and grassroots connections could enhance the party’s organization in Assam for future electoral challenges. Known for sparking controversies, Ajmal’s recent statements are likely to spark reactions from both the BJP and the Congress in the days ahead.
