Ajay Singhal, a 1992-batch IPS officer, assumed office as the 42nd Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana, succeeding O.P. Singh. His father, Om Prakash Singhal, witnessed the transition. Singhal described policing as a dynamic and challenging responsibility that evolves with crime patterns, technology, and public expectations.
Haryana Police, under Singhal’s leadership, is prepared to tackle emerging challenges with a strategic approach to enhance law and order. Singhal reiterated his commitment to maintaining peace, public safety, and a robust law enforcement system as top priorities. The focus will be on fostering a cohesive and professional team for citizen-centric policing.
Singhal highlighted the implementation of modern criminal laws tailored to India’s needs for efficient justice delivery. The aim is to enhance proactive, technology-driven, and result-oriented policing. Strengthening public trust in the police is a key agenda, with plans to automate grievance redressal mechanisms for timely and fair resolutions through digital monitoring.
The state’s conviction rate stands at approximately 72-73%, with efforts underway to further improve it towards achieving 100%. Singhal emphasized prioritizing women’s safety by implementing a comprehensive strategy to prevent crimes against women. Enhanced technology-enabled surveillance and targeted interventions in crime-prone areas are part of the plan, along with ensuring swift and strict action in cases involving vulnerable groups.
