National Security Advisor Ajit Doval highlighted the importance of cooperation among BIMSTEC nations during the fifth BIMSTEC National Security Advisors’ Meeting in New Delhi. Doval expressed the necessity for decisive actions and mutual discussions to address conflicts and geopolitical uncertainties prevalent in the global landscape. He underlined the significance of finding solutions collectively to combat security threats and economic challenges faced by member countries.
BIMSTEC, representing regions around the Indian Ocean, boasts a population accounting for nearly 22% of the world’s populace and a combined GDP of approximately $5 trillion. Doval emphasized the geographical unity of BIMSTEC nations through the Bay of Bengal and their shared cultural heritage spanning over a millennium. The alliance aims to leverage these historical ties to foster cooperation across various sectors and ensure a prosperous and resilient future for all citizens.
Doval reiterated the commitment of BIMSTEC nations to enhancing regional security, connectivity, capacity building, and economic stability. He emphasized the organization’s alignment with India’s Neighbourhood First policy and its dedication to the Act East policy and the MAHASAGAR vision. As BIMSTEC approaches its 30th anniversary next year, Doval urged member states to intensify collaborative efforts, enhance institutional capacity, and work towards bolstering national and regional security.
