Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary committee has announced a nationwide movement starting August 5 to demand the release of party chief Imran Khan and address other issues. The decision was made during a meeting led by PTI’s interim chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja mentioned that the movement will involve public gatherings, protests, and a long march.
The PTI leaders also discussed seeking opinions from Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas to finalize the protest plans and other activities. Gohar Ali Khan, during a press conference, emphasized the importance of August 5, marking three years since Imran Khan’s imprisonment. He expressed concerns about the lack of justice for Imran Khan and called for an end to injustice in the country.
Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi recently approached Pakistan’s Supreme Court to challenge the Islamabad High Court’s decision in a corruption case. The couple requested the court to suspend their convictions and release them pending appeal. They argued that the court’s rejection of their suspension plea without reviewing the evidence was legally incorrect. The petition also highlighted health issues faced by Imran Khan and his wife during detention, emphasizing the need for their release.
