Former Defence Minister AK Antony expressed his full backing for the Congress party’s decision to appoint V.D. Satheesan as the 13th Chief Minister of Kerala. He urged the public to be patient and supportive of Satheesan as the new state government takes shape. Antony highlighted the significance of the United Democratic Front government, led by the Congress, returning to power in Kerala after a decade.
Antony emphasized that the selection of Satheesan was a carefully considered choice by the Congress high command, including Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi. He reiterated that the decision was well-thought-out and deserving of support. The veteran leader advised giving Satheesan the necessary time to address the challenges facing Kerala, particularly its financial situation.
Congress MP Hibi Eden echoed Antony’s sentiments, expressing satisfaction that the party leadership had acknowledged the aspirations of the people of Kerala. Eden praised Satheesan’s leadership during his tenure as the Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, noting his efforts in challenging the previous government’s rule. He commended the high command for accepting Satheesan as the Chief Minister, citing the confidence he instilled in the people through his advocacy and actions.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister-designate V.D. Satheesan defended the time taken by the Congress leadership to finalize the decision. He explained that the process involved extensive consultations with various party members and stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of thorough deliberation. Satheesan clarified that the meticulous approach was necessary in the current media landscape, where misinformation can easily spread, and underscored the significance of inclusive discussions in arriving at a consensus.
