Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on Indians to cut costs, advising against buying gold, delaying foreign trips, and working from home due to economic challenges from the Iran-US conflict and rising oil prices. In response, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav criticized Modi, stating that this was not a mere request but a declaration of Modi’s failure. Yadav questioned the ruling BJP’s handling of the economy, pointing out the discrepancies between promises made and the current economic situation.
Yadav’s comments followed Modi’s recent address in Hyderabad, where he emphasized the need to conserve foreign exchange reserves and reduce fuel consumption amid global supply chain disruptions caused by the ongoing tensions in West Asia. Addressing the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Yadav refrained from revealing his party’s strategy but continued to criticize the BJP, attributing the economic challenges to the ruling party’s governance.
Modi’s appeal coincided with US President Donald Trump’s rejection of Iran’s peace proposals, leading to a surge in global crude oil prices above $105 per barrel. This development has raised concerns about inflation and energy security worldwide. Iran’s proposal to transfer enriched uranium while retaining nuclear facilities, despite US demands for dismantling, has further escalated tensions in the region.
