The Delhi Police Crime Branch has apprehended Al Falah University Chairman Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui over purported financial and administrative irregularities. This action follows complaints by the University Grants Commission (UGC) regarding suspected violations and fraudulent activities associated with the institution. Two FIRs have been filed against Siddiqui by the Crime Branch based on UGC’s complaint, alleging fraud and other offenses under the law.
Siddiqui has been taken into custody and presented before a Delhi court, which has granted the Crime Branch a four-day police custody period to interrogate him and gather more evidence. The investigation focuses on alleged irregularities and record falsification, with authorities expecting further details to emerge during questioning.
Al Falah University had previously faced scrutiny when it was disclosed that Dr. Umar Nabi, responsible for the Red Fort blast that claimed 12 lives, had been employed there. Investigations also revealed links between two of Nabi’s associates, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel and Dr. Shaheen Shahid, and a “white-collar” terror network, both associated with the university. The university’s website was taken offline last November after a show-cause notice from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council concerning an alleged false accreditation claim.
The Enforcement Directorate has announced plans to scrutinize the university’s financial operations, including funding sources and monetary transactions involving its medical and administrative staff, as part of the ongoing probe.
