The Chief of All India Imam Organisation, Maulana Sajid Rashidi, criticized Swami Avimukteshwaranand for facing an FIR under the POCSO Act for alleged sexual abuse of minors. Rashidi expressed deep concern over the revelation, highlighting that revered religious leaders may have a hidden criminal side. He emphasized the need for strict action, stating that spiritual status should not shield anyone from the law.
Rashidi, in a conversation with the media, remarked on the surprising turn of events involving Avimukteshwaranand. He pointed out that individuals like Avimukteshwaranand, once perceived as honest religious figures, could have undisclosed dark aspects. Rashidi described the situation as regrettable, noting that the public perception of religious leaders as godly figures might not always align with reality.
The cleric stressed the importance of holding such individuals accountable and keeping them away from the public eye. He insisted that those found guilty of such acts must face severe consequences, regardless of their religious or social standing. Rashidi also called for a comprehensive investigation into ashrams and religious institutions to prevent any misconduct from going unnoticed.
The recent court order for registering an FIR against Swami Avimukteshwaranand, his disciple Mukundanand, and two others for alleged child sexual abuse has sparked widespread concern. The directive came after a complaint by Ashutosh Brahmachari, with two minors involved in the case. Rashidi urged the government to address such incidents seriously, cautioning against overlooking similar allegations involving religious leaders.
