Amid accusations of misusing UNESCO’s name and logo during Durga Puja events, Jaydeep Mukhopadhyay labeled it the “biggest art scam” and urged a thorough inquiry. He claimed that Mass Art had allegedly used UNESCO’s name and emblem for Durga Puja activities, raising funds through branding companies and government bodies. Mukhopadhyay emphasized the impact on Durga Puja’s reputation and West Bengal’s cultural and economic sentiments.
Mukhopadhyay highlighted the alleged association between Mass Art and UNESCO, stating that the organization misrepresented UNESCO’s involvement in selecting Durga Puja pandals and selling tickets. He stressed the need for an impartial investigation into what he described as a significant art scam. Mukhopadhyay, an international travel consultant, expressed his dedication to promoting Durga Puja globally since 2010, aiming to enhance its international recognition and cultural significance.
An international tourism company filed a police complaint against former state minister Indranil Sen and his wife for allegedly selling pre-Puja tickets illegally, exploiting UNESCO’s name. The complaint, lodged at the Bowbazar Police Station in Kolkata, accused the couple of running an illicit commercial operation linked to Durga Puja. The complaint highlighted alleged financial activities by an organization named MassArt, claiming a partnership with UNESCO for selecting Durga Puja pandals, which was disputed by the complainant.
