India has become a crucial market for Amazon’s rapid-commerce endeavors, with the ‘Amazon Now’ service emerging as the company’s fastest-growing ecommerce division in the country, as stated by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy. Jassy, following a visit to an Amazon Now micro-fulfillment center in a bustling Mumbai neighborhood, emphasized the remarkable growth of the service, noting a rising preference among customers for deliveries within minutes of order placement.
The micro-fulfillment centers are specifically designed to swiftly pick and dispatch everyday essentials like groceries, baby products, shampoo, and household items, ensuring customers receive their orders promptly. Jassy expressed his delight at being in India and touring an Amazon Now micro-fulfillment center in a vibrant Mumbai area, highlighting the quick delivery of essential items such as groceries, baby products, and more just minutes after ordering.
Jassy revealed that Prime members who engage with the service witness a significant surge in their shopping frequency, with their purchase activity tripling post-adoption. He further mentioned that order volumes have been doubling every quarter since the service’s inception in India. Describing the business as Amazon’s fastest-growing ecommerce segment in the country, Jassy outlined plans to extend the service to over 300 cities to establish India’s largest delivery-in-minutes network.
The innovations and operational insights gained from developing the quick-commerce model in India are now aiding Amazon in expanding similar services in the United States and other global markets, Jassy noted. Expressing confidence in the company’s growth trajectory in India, Jassy commended the teams, associates, and partners for their contributions to the business, emphasizing that Amazon is only at the initial stages of what is achievable in the Indian market.
