Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the significance of utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to transform data into intelligence. Speaking at the 26th All India Fingerprint Conference–2026 in New Delhi, Shah emphasized the need for AI teams to analyze crime patterns and identify repeat offenders. He stressed the importance of leveraging technology to enhance crime analysis and address jurisdictional gaps between states.
Shah underscored the necessity of combatting cybercrime, advocating for third-party audits and stringent measures against authority misuse. He noted the evolving landscape of the criminal justice system in India, emphasizing the transition from traditional methods to more advanced approaches. Shah also discussed the implementation of new criminal laws aimed at bolstering forensic evidence collection and ensuring thorough investigations.
The updated laws mandate forensic experts to visit crime scenes for serious offenses and video-graph the evidence collection process to prevent tampering. This dual strategy aims to improve the quality and reliability of investigations, ultimately contributing to a fair dispensation of justice.
