Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah praised the Central Armed Police Forces for planting seven crore trees in the last seven years. Speaking at a plantation event in Ahmedabad, Shah emphasized the importance of public involvement in environmental conservation efforts. He mentioned the recent planting of 43 lakh trees in Delhi Ridge as part of the broader initiative to enhance India’s green cover.
Shah noted that the selected saplings were indigenous species well-suited to Indian conditions and capable of lasting over a century. He highlighted the benefits of trees like banyan and peepal, which not only absorb carbon dioxide but also provide habitats for birds and support biodiversity. Shah also mentioned the inauguration of Oxygen Parks in Ahmedabad, aimed at creating spaces for wildlife.
The minister highlighted the success of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which saw significant public participation in tree planting. Over 1,37,000 individuals in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency registered online to plant trees, with saplings distributed through a systematic process. Private organizations were also acknowledged for adopting trees and ensuring their maintenance for three years.
Ahmedabad witnessed a massive plantation drive and the opening of 101 Oxygen Parks, along with various civic development projects. The efforts underscored a growing focus on environmental protection alongside national development.
