The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) is in turmoil as it issues show-cause notices to key office-bearers and executive committee members amidst escalating allegations and internal strife. Former Joint Secretary Ansiba Hassan, General Secretary Kukku Parameswaran, and executive committee members Tiny Tom and Lakshmi Priya have been summoned to appear before the executive committee as part of disciplinary proceedings. Ansiba has been specifically instructed to present evidence supporting her allegations made prior to her resignation.
The crisis has revealed deep rifts within AMMA, with reports of President Shweta Menon and General Secretary Kukku Parameswaran leading opposing factions. Infighting and public disputes among office-bearers have significantly disrupted the organization’s operations, once known as a prominent entity in Malayalam cinema. Efforts to resolve the conflict internally are underway, but the situation has escalated as members openly accuse each other in public.
Senior Malayalam stars Mammootty and Mohanlal are closely monitoring the situation, refraining from direct intervention at present. A crucial decision regarding the current governing body’s future is anticipated at the upcoming AMMA general body meeting. The controversy heightened when Ansiba Hassan accused actor Tiny Tom of racial abuse, personal attacks, and public humiliation, leading her to consider legal action against him.
Actress Nina Kurup is expected to be a witness in the case, supporting Ansiba’s claims against Tiny Tom. Additionally, Nina Kurup had lodged a complaint with AMMA, alleging public humiliation and misconduct by Tiny Tom during rehearsals. Meanwhile, Ansiba has lodged complaints against the police, alleging mistreatment at a station based on a false complaint by actress Lakshmi Priya. She seeks an independent committee to investigate her grievances, proposing a neutral panel comprising actors Ramesh Pisharody, Mala Parvathy, and Dhyan Sreenivasan.
With internal divisions widening and new allegations emerging, the unrest within AMMA poses a significant challenge for the Malayalam film industry.
