Legendary actors Amrish Puri and Smita Patil delivered remarkable performances in Shyam Benegal’s film “Bhumika.” In a surprising revelation, it was disclosed that during a scene, Amrish Puri unexpectedly slapped Smita Patil, leaving her taken aback.

During an episode of “Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai,” Amrish Puri recounted the incident, explaining that the slap was unplanned. He mentioned, “In the scene, I stop her and she retorts. Unable to bear it, I had to slap her.”

Director Shyam Benegal approved the impromptu act, resulting in a genuine reaction from Smita Patil during the scene. Amrish Puri emphasized, “That natural reaction is captured in the film.”

The movie “Bhumika,” directed by Shyam Benegal, stars Smita Patil, Amol Palekar, Anant Nag, Naseeruddin Shah, and Amrish Puri in significant roles. It is based on the Marathi memoirs of actress Hansa Wadkar, depicting Smita Patil’s character’s evolution from youth to maturity.
