Amritsar Commissionerate Police successfully disrupted a cross-border arms smuggling operation by apprehending four individuals and seizing seven advanced pistols, as confirmed by Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav. The arrested suspects, including Samarbir Singh, Satnam Singh, Tanupreet Singh, and Karanjot Singh, were found in possession of weapons like Glock pistols from Austria and Chinese-made .30 bore pistols.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused had connections with smugglers in Pakistan via social media platforms. Illegal arms shipments were reportedly transported across the border using drones and then distributed among criminal networks through their associates.
Further inquiries are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network and identify additional accomplices involved in the illicit arms trade. Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar disclosed that the operation was meticulously executed based on a tip-off, leading to the arrest of Samarbir with two Glock pistols. Subsequent actions resulted in the detention of Satnam, Tanupreet Singh, and Karanjot, along with the recovery of five more pistols.
Notably, one of the accused, Satnam, was previously implicated in a case involving a significant heroin seizure. Investigations have also unveiled that Satnam and Karanjot, who are neighbors, collaborated under the guidance of a handler based in Pakistan. The suspects, described as well-educated individuals who had worked as salesmen in a private company, resided in close proximity and were acquainted with each other.
