Anand Singh from India impressed on the global stage by surpassing the 80m mark for the first time, securing the men’s javelin throw gold at the Asian U23 Athletics Championships 2026 in Ordos, China. In his debut international appearance, the 22-year-old achieved a personal best throw of 80.57m, surpassing his previous record by 2.89m and joining the exclusive 80m club for Indian javelin throwers.
Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Anand entered the championships with a personal best of 77.68m, set at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar. Despite finishing fourth in that event, his remarkable performance in China marked a significant improvement and showcased India’s prowess in men’s javelin.
Anand’s exceptional display in China highlighted a remarkable progression in his skills, as he outperformed his previous best to claim the gold medal. This victory underscored India’s growing dominance in men’s javelin throwing.
At the Indian Open Throws Competition in Patiala earlier this year, Anand had secured the second position with a throw of 76.94m, hinting at the rapid progress that culminated in his standout performance in China. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) had previously selected a 54-member national track and field team for the inaugural Asian U23 Athletics Championships in Ordos.
